At the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation, we believe widows deserve to be celebrated and loved. That is why we organized a special event, ‘Love on Her Day’, to honor Agnes Waggay from the Congo Town community with a makeover and celebration.
Agnes’s story is one of courage and perseverance. She lost both parents as a teenager, and later, shortly after the birth of her last son, she also lost her husband. Despite these hardships, Agnes has shown incredible strength, selling charcoal to send her children to school and provide for her family.

To honor her resilience, the Foundation, together with friends and supporters, surprised Agnes with a dress makeover and a special lunch, bringing together other community widows and charladies. Agnes was also presented with essential goods to support a business startup, providing her with opportunities to rebuild and improve her livelihood.
The celebration was filled with laughter, music, and joy. The smile on Agnes’s face, accompanied by tears of happiness, was one she had never imagined experiencing. The day was more than a moment of recognition; it was a powerful message to Agnes, and to all widows, that they are valued, remembered, and loved.

This initiative is part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to uplift hidden voices and make a tangible difference in the lives of widows, one community at a time.

The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this celebration possible and calls on the wider community to join in supporting this cause. With your help, we look forward to many more moments of love, hope, and empowerment for widows across Sierra Leone.
