This past Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the Congo Town community was filled with hope and excitement as the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation (JNJF) hosted a special celebration to honor the successful completion of the first Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) cycle by one of its widows' groups.
Over the past year, these resilient women came together weekly, saving small amounts that added up to an incredible 32 million Leones. These funds were shared amongst the group members, enabling them to support their families, invest in small businesses, and pay school fees for their children. But beyond the finances, what they built was something deeper: a sisterhood grounded in unity, support, and hope.

The event, held in the heart of Congo Town, was vibrant with energy and emotion. One of the highlights was the presentation of certificates to each participating member, commemorating their commitment and success in completing the full VSLA cycle. As an added token of appreciation and motivation, JNJF presented gifts to the top-performing savers, a gesture that reinforced the Foundation’s belief in recognizing hard work and encouraging excellence.

Esteemed guest Dr. Adonis A.M. Abboud is the Honorary Consul-General and Dean of the Consular Corps of the Consulate of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Chairman of Pikin Bizness delivered an inspiring message, drawing from his work supporting children in need of critical health care. He encouraged the widows to continue believing in their potential and commended the Foundation for its life-changing impact.

Mr. Noah, representing the Ministry of Social Welfare, echoed these sentiments and praised JNJF for its continued efforts in uplifting some of the most vulnerable members of society.
This event also showcased how JNJF is deepening its connection with the communities it serves. By bringing the celebration directly into Congo Town, the Foundation emphasized that these women are not just beneficiaries but are part of one extended family. It was a powerful act of inclusion and belonging.

The widows, visibly joyful and proud, expressed immense gratitude. They spoke of how the program has restored their sense of purpose and given them practical tools for self-reliance. Many are now eagerly preparing for their second VSLA cycle, motivated to save even more, build stronger ties, and take greater steps toward economic empowerment.
The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation continues to lead the way in transforming lives through community-based development. Through VSLA and other initiatives, it is creating ripple effects of change, one woman, one community, and one success story at a time.
