On 18th December 2025, the Falcon Street Community, one of the sponsored communities of the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation, reached a powerful milestone by successfully completing their one year Village Savings and Loan Association cycle.
The event marked a major achievement for over 75 women, organized into three VSLA groups, who collectively saved a total amount of Le 71,733Â over the course of the year. The atmosphere was filled with joy, pride, and celebration as members were called forward one after another to receive their savings. This was a true testament to discipline, commitment, and collective effort.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. Alhaji T. Kamara, Adviser to the Foundation, who served as the guest speaker. In his remarks, he expressed deep fulfillment at witnessing the positive transformation in the lives of the women. He described the initiative as rare and impactful within communities in Freetown and commended the Foundation for its continued dedication to touching, transforming, and empowering the lives of widows and vulnerable women in the Falcon Street Community.
He noted that this achievement represents a strong step toward success and even greater accomplishments ahead, while encouraging the women to remain consistent and committed to the savings culture.
Many of the VSLA members, most of whom are widows, shared how meaningful the savings are to them. They explained that the funds would be used to clear children’s school arrears, invest in small businesses, cover medical expenses, and address other pressing household needs. Most importantly, the women expressed strong enthusiasm and readiness to begin another savings cycle, with renewed determination.

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of Ms. Posseh Kanu, a chairlady who emerged as the highest saver, with a total savings of Le 2,463. In appreciation of her commitment, she was presented with food items.
To conclude the celebration, the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation presented the group with a Certificate of Completion, along with a bag of rice as a token of appreciation for their hard work, unity, and resilience.
The smiles, laughter, and renewed confidence seen throughout the event reflected more than financial progress. They reflected hope, dignity, and empowerment. As the Falcon Street women prepare to begin a new VSLA cycle, the Foundation remains committed to supporting their journey toward sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures.
