A Weekend of Love: Honoring Mama Helen with Two Unforgettable Celebrations

The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation (JNJF) turned an ordinary weekend into an extraordinary testament of love, dignity, and appreciation for one of its remarkable widows — Mama Helen.

Friday: A Day of Pampering and Surprise

Friday morning began like any other for Mama Helen, proprietor of Faith Arena International School. Since her husband’s passing, she has worked tirelessly to sustain the school and raise their children, embodying resilience and quiet strength.

What she didn’t know was that JNJF had secretly planned a special surprise part of the Love on Her Day initiative, created to honor widows who inspire their communities.

Thanks to the generosity of My Looks Beauty Salon, Helen was invited out under the guise of a meeting. Instead, she was welcomed with a full day of pampering — manicure, pedicure, massage, and a radiant makeover that left her moved to tears.

The surprises continued as she was escorted to New Brookfields Hotel, where an elegantly prepared room awaited.

Dressed in outfits provided for the evening, she enjoyed a poolside dinner, dessert under the stars, and an overnight stay filled with laughter and memories shared with a fellow widow.

The next morning, after a delightful breakfast buffet, Helen returned home to the warm embrace of her children and loved ones.

Sunday: A Celebration at Home

Two days later, the love came home. JNJF quietly organized a second celebration — this time right at Helen’s doorstep.

Staff members and community charladies arrived in matching attire, carrying food, gifts, and music that filled the air with joy. Neighbors gathered as Helen stepped outside to find her yard transformed into a festive gathering.

The Foundation’s founders presented thoughtful gifts: a framed portrait for remembrance, along with rice, cooking oil, soap, and other essentials for her household. Overwhelmed, Helen called it one of the happiest days of her life.
