JAMIL AND NYANGA JAWARD FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH SULMA DESIGN TO EMPOWER WIDOWS THROUGH SKILLS TRAINING

The CEO of the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation, Jamil Jaward, held a crucial meeting with Sulma Manty Beckley, founder of Sulma Design, to discuss a potential collaboration aimed at empowering widows and their children through specialized skills training.

The meeting culminated in an agreement between the two organizations, setting the stage for a partnership that will offer young widows and the children of widows the opportunity to learn valuable skills such as Gara-tie dyeing, recycling waste into fashionable and usable furniture, and creating fashion beads—an extension of the innovative work Sulma Design is already known for.

The collaboration between the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation and Sulma Design is seen as a significant step forward in providing sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable women and their families. The skills training is expected to commence soon, with both organizations expressing optimism about the impact this partnership will have on the lives of the beneficiaries.

“We are thrilled to partner with Sulma Design, an organization that shares our vision of empowering women through practical skills training,” said Mr Jamil Jaward, CEO of the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation. “This collaboration will enable us to equip widows and their children with the tools they need to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to their communities. We believe that by learning these skills, they can transform their lives and create a brighter future for themselves and their families.” Mr. Jaward Added

Mrs. Sulma Manty Beckley, founder of Sulma Design, also expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration. “At Sulma Design, we are passionate about using creativity and innovation to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Partnering with the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation aligns perfectly with our mission. Together, we can provide widows and their children with the skills and opportunities they need to build a better future. I am excited to see the positive impact this collaboration will have on these women and their communities.” She said

The skills training program will focus on teaching participants how to create sustainable products from locally available materials, which can then be sold to generate income. The training will not only provide these women with a means to support their families but also foster creativity and entrepreneurship within their communities.

As the partnership between the Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation and Sulma Design moves forward, both organizations remain committed to their shared goal of empowering widows and vulnerable women in Sierra Leone. This collaboration is expected to be a model for future initiatives aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods for marginalized groups, reinforcing the foundation’s ongoing mission to uplift and support those in need.

With the agreement in place, the training sessions are anticipated to begin shortly, bringing new opportunities and hope to many widows and their children across Freetown.
