The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation has teamed up with New Brookfields Hotel to launch a transformative skills training program designed to equip widows with practical experience in hospitality. Through hands-on training in housekeeping, catering, receptionist duties, and other essential hospitality roles, the initiative aims to boost employability, encourage entrepreneurship, and foster financial independence for widows seeking new opportunities.
The project officially began today, with Kadiatu Koroma and Neneh Kanu starting their internships at the hotel. The women expressed their joy and gratitude for this opportunity to rebuild their lives and create brighter futures for their families.
“This training means the world to me,” said Kadiatu Koroma. “I lost my husband years ago, and it has been a struggle to provide for my children. Learning these skills will open doors I never thought possible. I am deeply thankful to the foundation and New Brookfield’s Hotel for giving me this chance.”

Neneh Kanu shared similar sentiments, noting the sense of purpose the program has given her. “This internship is not just about learning a job,” she said. “It’s about rebuilding my confidence and showing my children that we can overcome challenges. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long while.”
Hawa Bintu Dauda, Acting Programs Officer at the foundation, emphasized the transformative potential of the program. “This initiative goes beyond skill-building,” she said. “It empowers widows with the tools they need to achieve financial independence, improve their mental health, and balance personal responsibilities. We believe this partnership with New Brookfield’s Hotel will create lasting change for many women.”
The training program not only equips participants with technical skills but also fosters social connections and a sense of community among the widows. By offering flexible opportunities, the initiative ensures that participants can balance their training with their family responsibilities.

Paul Suffield the Director of New Brookfield’s Hotel expressed pride in collaborating on this impactful initiative. He stated, “We are honored to support such a meaningful program. Our team is committed to providing hands-on training and mentorship to help these widows succeed in the hospitality industry.”
The Jamil and Nyanga Jaward Foundation continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering vulnerable women through innovative programs and partnerships. By providing widows with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive, the foundation remains a beacon of hope for those facing life’s toughest challenges.
